Honesty in Addiction Recovery

Spirituality is the topic of one of the educational sessions that will be provided for your participation during the Living in Balance portion of your treatment for an addiction at Spirit Lodge.

Learning what the acronym “HOW” means in a spiritually focused addiction treatment program will help to become more comfortable with understanding the aspects of what spirituality really is, rather than thinking of it in theoretical, or philosophical religious terms.

During this portion of your addiction treatment, you will learn that “H.O.W.” as referenced in addiction recovery programs stands for Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness.

Dealing with Emotions in Early Sobriety

The first discussion regarding this method for better comprehending spirituality will focus on the importance of honesty in achieving long-term sobriety. In a previous session, you will have discussed honesty in part and how it can help to prevent addiction relapse as a lack of this honesty is actually one of the common warning signs that the process of addiction relapse is in effect.

When you start your addiction treatment program, you will need to be honest in terms of recognizing for yourself the effect that the disease of addiction has actually had on your life.  You must also realize that a feeling of things spinning out of control may be one of the reasons that you find a need for help with your drug addiction or alcoholism to begin with.

The initial stages of sobriety in early recovery include discovering a potentially wide array of new emotions that you will need help learning how to cope with these feelings.  Learning that the process of sharing your feelings with others honestly is one of the ways that you will need to use to learn how to effectively deal with the many different emotions you are experiencing at this stage in your recovery from a drug or alcohol addiction.

At Spirit Lodge we recognize you to be more than just an addiction.  Our supportive, experienced counselors, who regularly help guests from Texas, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, New York and Florida, will work closely with you to assist you in ending your alcohol dependence or drug dependence.
