Addiction Treatment Programs and Prayer

At the end of the addiction treatment session that focuses on spirituality during your time of engagement in the Living in Balance portion of Spirit Lodge addiction treatment, the subject of prayer will be addressed.

Having already discussed the importance to many in addiction recovery of finding a higher power to rely on in the process of discovering and having a spiritual experience where the individual will feel more closely connected with their source of strength, the higher power, you will now learn about the connection in prayer.

Experienced, recovery professionals will discuss with you the ways that people use prayer to connect to their higher power and what types of prayers are commonly used.  In the 12 step program for drug abuse and alcohol addiction recovery, you will find that the eleventh step mentions using prayer and meditation to discover “God’s” will.

Step 11 of the 12 Step Program for Addiction Recovery

The eleventh step of the 12 step group addiction treatment program is quoted as: “We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”

The ways that people pray will also be discussed during your addiction treatment.  Whether praying alone, audibly or silently, or praying together with a group, many people feel that they enjoy experiencing the power of prayer in their life as they work a spiritually focused addiction recovery program and continuously attempt to become closer in their connection with their higher power.

The reasoning behind the council in step 11 of the 12 step group addiction treatment program of praying only for knowledge of “His” will, rather than praying for selfish ends, will be discussed in more detail.  Previously in this session of your addiction treatment program, you covered the topic of self-centeredness and how it can be an integral part of active substance abuse addiction.  As you learn about the reasoning behind the 11th step advice, you will be helped to better understand the ways these aspects of your recovery program tie together.

At Spirit Lodge, we treat you as a unique individual with circumstances that are specific to you personally. That’s why our supportive, experienced counselors, who regularly help guests from Florida, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and New York, will work closely with you to assist you in ending your alcohol dependence or drug dependence.
