Addiction Recovery: Spiritual Experience

As you progress through the educational session covering the topic of spirituality of the Living in Balance portion of addiction treatment at Spirit Lodge, you will now be learning more about the subject of what spiritual experiences in addiction recovery are.

There are a variety of perceptions of spiritual experiences that will be addressed during this segment of addiction treatment. However, the primary focus will be on the slow and gradual changes that people experience as they recover from an addiction to drugs or an addiction to alcohol.

You may not always be the first one to notice it when you begin to reflect changes in your demeanor, attitude and behaviors. The passage of time, however, will cause you to become increasingly aware of your own changes and spiritual growth. The increased connection to your personal concept of a higher power will be part of this addiction recovery spiritual experience in this addiction treatment session.

Addiction Treatment Program: Increased Spiritual Awareness

The increased awareness that is often experienced by those progressing in their addiction recovery treatments is generally called an increased consciousness or awareness or even an awakening. This sense of increased awareness is usually connected to the higher power source, which as previously discussed can be different for each individual.

As this “awakening” occurs, or spiritual experience, it is generally accompanied by more readily recognizing other people, their roles in our life and their significance as you begin to feel more like a part of a community, rather than isolated and separate.

The recognition of the spiritual experience in addiction recovery is a personal one that only you will be able to realize or convince yourself that you have or have not had.
