Person Centered Therapy
This therapy is based on the idea that people are innately good and if allowed to develop naturally, they will grow toward self-actualization, the realization of their inner potential. This idea suggests that psychological disorders result when a person's natural tendency toward self-actualization is blocked. Individuals themselves may block their natural tendency toward growth and self-actualization when they act in ways inconsistent with their true self. In Person-Centered Therapy, formerly called Client-Centered Therapy, the focus is on the conscious thoughts and feelings. The therapist attempts to create a warm, accepting climate in which guests are free to be themselves so that their natural tendency toward growth can be released.
